Employment Program

An integral part of the Trinity House-Big Bethel program is ensuring that the men in the program obtain necessary job readiness skills to gain employment and earn a living wage.  The job readiness training, overseen by the staff, begins during the fourth week of the resident’s stay.

Each resident begins job readiness training by identifying his skills and interests through completing a job readiness form.   Based on this assessment, program staff pinpoint several possible employment venues for each resident.  Staff and volunteers work closely with the residents to prepare resumes, practice interviewing, and identify promising avenues of employment.

Employment support continues after employment is obtained.  Group sessions with staff counselors often focus on workplace protocol, problem solving, and maintaining employment.

Employment is the key to defeating chronic homelessness.  In addition to providing an income and means of support, employment boosts self-esteem, further combating drug addiction.  The skills and motivation to seek out, apply for, and obtain employment is critical to Trinity House-Big Bethel residents’ futures.
