Cultural Program
Most of the residents served by Trinity House-Big Bethel are African-American men. For this reason, the program’s focus is largely Afrocentric. Teaching residents about their heritage quickly instills within them a sense of pride in their culture and in themselves.
Residents explore their heritage by visiting the Civil Rights Museum in Birmingham, Alabama each year, attending Afrocentric plays, and marching in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade in Atlanta.
Organized Social Events
Organized social activities encourage the development of interpersonal skills. With the help of counselors and staff, the elected Social Chairman plans and organizes all social activities. Social events may provide a service to the community, an educational opportunity, or an entertaining experience. Some recent social events include:
Team basketball games Wednesday nights at the Butler Street YMCA
Helping with local car washes
Cleaning up neighborhood parks
Going to the movies
Attending plays
Annual retreat
Recovery conferences
Visiting the Civil Rights Museum in Birmingham
